Mexican-American Tony Alva took skateboarding vertical when everyone else was still on the ground.
By 19, he founded Alva Skates, becoming the first skater to own his company. His style was so revolutionary that Hollywood told his story twice—first in the documentary “Dogtown and Z-Boys” (2002) and then in “Lords of Dogtown” (2005) starring Heath Ledger.
From inventing aerial skateboarding to designing the first skate shoe with Vans, Tony Alva’s legacy proves that sometimes breaking the rules creates the most lasting impact.
