you know chili came from Mexico?
Before the 1500s, Indian food had no chili peppers. Neither did Thai, Korean or Chinese food.

Chili peppers were first domesticated in what is now Mexico, thousands of years ago.

After 1492 they crossed the ocean, and Portuguese traders helped carry them into Asia in the 1500s. Before that, those kitchens got their heat from things like black pepper and ginger.

Today it’s hard to imagine a curry without chili. That heat started in Mexico.
